Throughout the months of November and December, I am writing a few posts highlighting unique – cool – hip – fun ideas for holiday gifts. I am focusing on local artists, crafters, and/or store owners who sell items that would be perfect for your child or a child on your list. There will also be a listing for some cool ideas your child can give an adult in your family, friends, or your kids’ teachers.
Today I am featuring Trott Wood Creations out of Mantua, Ohio. I came across this unique company at the Worthington Arts Festival and fell in love with their creations! They design and hand-craft rockers for children. Rockers are made out of wood and range from dragons, fire trucks, and unicorns to trains, traditional horses, and airplanes. They are strong enough to hold an adult, but really the children should get to have all the fun.
Trott Wood Creations is made up of husband and wife team Trish and Scott, and I don’t think I can state it better than they do: “Concepts created by the wild woman dancing round the house to ABBA, Elton John & ELO. Each rocker is hand constructed in the back yard barn to rock music by the old hippie.” Trish and Scott create the concept for each rocker together and sketch it out. Scott takes the design into his woodshop (the backyard barn) where he cuts the wood and puts the pieces together. Once it is sanded and ready to go, Trish paints the rockers giving each one a unique look. These rockers are heirloom quality creations, and are sturdy enough for even an adult to take a ride. I can just see a unicorn in my daugther’s room and a firetruck in my son’s – they are gorgeous.
If you plan to purchase a Trott Wood Creations rocker for the holidays, please place your order soon. They have some rockers for sale now, and they can also do custom rockers. For every tenth rocker that is purchased, one rocker is made for donation to an Ohio children’s hospital or foundation for children. These people seriously ROCK!
