Wholly Craft! is a little gem of a store located off of High Street just south of North Broadway in Clintonville. The eclectic store is stocked full of artwork and crafts handmade by incredibly talented indie artists. Each time I stop in I see something I absolutely cannot live without, and knowing everything was handmade makes me happy – I love to support my local artists and crafters. Another bonus is that you can find something cool and unique for just about anyone on your wish list, and you won’t burn a whole in your wallet purchasing it. Everything is affordably priced, and trust me, give a gift that is handmade and cool this season and you’ll be the “Cottinghams” of the party (David Sedaris fans know what I mean! ha!). Wholly Craft! features items from 150 crafters around the nation and 50 of them are from Ohio.
Parking is available on High Street and side streets, and you don’t have to have a permit or change for a meter, and there is plenty of it. I took my son with me when I went shopping, and he was a good little boy shopping for things at his level and laying on the floor (his new signature move). There was a ton of stuff for kids! Onsies and tiny tees for the young kids in the family with cool state of Ohio-type logos from Mr. Pickles and Alison Rose all around $18, gorgeous wooden teethers from Little Alouette ranging around $14, plushie monster toys by Happycloud Thunderhead ranging from $20 – $25, finger puppets by
Wee Knit that are perfect stocking stuffers and only $3. Olivera Bratich owner of Wholly Craft! said, “I’ve seen the Wee Knit finger puppets entertain kids at various craft shows while mom shops.” hmmm….maybe pick one up so you can shop when you stop in! They are conveniently located by the front entrance, and at only $3 – this is definitely cheaper than a babysitter.
I saw a few other things that would be perfect for tweens or teenagers, such as cool shirts that have a lumberjack punching a bear out (I actually have given my husband the t-shirt AND the sweatshirt of this item), cool Vintage Jane face pillows, furry handbags, AmyD aprons and clothing line, and Stinkybomb Soap – soap that is shaped like a WWII hand grenade or retro cassette tape (yes, cassette tapes are retro now…I feel so old.). Wholly Craft! also offers gift certificates so your picky teen or mother-in-law can pick out what they like. GCs can also be used for the wide variety of beginners classes offered at the store, such as knitting, sewing, or origami. Check out their blog for more information on classes: Wholly Craft! The Blog.
Those are just a few items you’ll find at Wholly Craft!. Please stop in and support your local artist for the holiday. Mark your calendar for the Wholly Craft! “Holiday Event” on Saturday, December 12 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Items on sale, food, and picture opps with the holiday ape…nothing says “Deck the Halls” like a big ape in a Santa cap.

Last year I saw that t-shirt with the lumberjack punching out the bear at a craft show (Craftin Outlaws, I think), but I didn’t buy it (but then regretted it). I search all over the internet, googling “lumberjack punching out bear” and such and finally when into Wholly Craft and found it (they were out of the size I wanted at that time). That store is AWESOME though! Thanks for reminding me I need to go back and get that shirt – I absolutely love it!
