A huge open space with three to four open indoor fields, bounce houses, basketball hoops, balls, tents, and arcade games – and only $7/child (2 and under are free with a paid admission). Does this sound like fun to you and your child who’ve been stuck inside (I mean, c’mom, sledding and building snowmen really do have a shelf life)? If it does, you absolutely need to check out Field Sports’ Open Play Days in Dublin. They offer open play times from now until May.
The place is seriously huge and wore my kids out. We arrived and signed a waiver to let the kids play and they took off into one of the indoor fields. If you haven’t been to an indoor soccer or dodge ball match, these fields have soft cushiony floors – perfect for baby to crawl around on and toddlers to take tumbles and not get hurt. We saw children ranging in ages from babyhood to about 8 the day we were there. The staff puts out enormous balls the kids can push, tents and tunnels to climb through, soft frisbees, and much more. There is plenty of space or other rooms for the big kids to play ball and not risk injuring smaller children. They can kick a soccer ball around or start their own dodge ball match. Then there is a room with four large bounce houses that have slides and obstacle courses. Upstairs is a picnic area for lunch. I recommend just letting the kids play and then grabbing a snack or lunch when you are finished. The open play time is only offered for two hours, so don’t waste it on eating!
This was a great escape from the cold outside, and a great place to play during a week day. It was fun and laid back – very family-friendly. My friend and I said we should have races and let the kids just run up and down the field. After all, they need to get out some of that post-holiday energy, and mama is tired of letting snow pants hang to dry.
Field Sports also offers leagues for volleyball, basketball, and many other sports. You can even have your child’s birthday party there! Check out their website for more information: www.fieldsports.org. Open Play Days take place on specified dates, click here for more information: open play.

Here’s a few tips if you decide to take the kiddies:
- Major credit cards accepted.
- Plenty of room for strollers or for baby to crawl around while the big kids play.
- Take water and a snack – at least for the car ride home.
- Lockers with a coin fee to store valuables.
- The staff is friendly and super helpful.
- You need to buy tokens for the arcade games. They can be added to your charge card.
- Big bathrooms with a changing room.
I actually went to check it out today. I was excited about my under 2 son being free. Well here is the catch…He was free but they made me pay $5. They said kids 2 and under are free with a paid admission. We stayed anyway and had a good time. Just thought others would want to know before going in and thinking there would be no charge.
Thanks, Jen, I did not know that. I will put that in the post.
I signed my 6yo son up for the winter league Flag Football and I will never do that again! They aren’t good at organizing the games, the coaches never contact you and that is just the start. They stopped posting the stats on their website after week 2. They get the scores wrong on there as well. The people that work there coach some of the teams and they bend the rules do to the refs are their friends and coworkers. If your son isn’t on their team you will be very upset with them believe me. If you want a good program to put your son in this is NOT it. I would suggest googleing flag football and finding a better program. My son has played in a couple different leagues since last spring and this one is just horrid. The refs are mean to the kids and play favorites to their coworkers teams. Not to mention they act mad all the time and talk to the parents like they are dirt. I taped all my sons games and clearly saw over 20 bad calls, extra downs being given, etc. I give it 1 star because there isn’t an option to give 0. Trust me I’m not alone in thinking this because a lot of parents and coaches that don’t work there all say the same thing every week. I just want them to know that they can’t get away with it so I am going to post this as much as possible to warn people that may be wanting to enter their son in Flag Football. Good Luck and God Bless!
