One of my favorite animated movies is Madagascar, and I’ve probably seen it 15 times because it is one of my girl’s favorite movies too. Madagascar seriously cracks me up! This funny film has been made into a live musical and is coming to Columbus February 26 and 27, 2011. Madagascar Live! is DreamWorks Theatricals’ first-ever live family touring show, and will be performed at the Palace Theater. The show is 90 minutes in length, lots of music and dancing, and it looks as if the costuming and puppet design is terrific.
The premise is that Marty the Zebra desperately wants out of the zoo. He realizes there is more to life than being caged up for ogling zoo patrons and wants to run wild and free. His entourage of best friends that, not by choice, end up going on this wild adventure with him are: Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, Melman the Giraffe, and a group of madcap penguins always planning some sort of crazy mission. They all end up on Madagascar, and go through trials and tribulations that test their friendships and who they are as wild animals. Seriously, the characters are heart-warming and silly, and much of the dialogue will make you laugh out loud. I am certain the live show will not disappoint!

A few helpful hints:
- Bring cash for food or drinks.
- Be prepared for your child to want every souvenir they are selling. Tell them your rules up front, whatever you decide. Suggestions: “We are buying nothing at the show, just so you know.” or “You can get one thing when we are there.” or “Maybe bring some of your allowance money to purchase a souvenir at the show.”
- Know where the bathrooms are, because your child may not wait until intermission and you don’t want to miss too much of the performance!
- Your child may want to sit on your lap the entire time (mine does).
