Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts, I was unable to do my monthly appearance on Fox 28 “Good Day Columbus.” BUT, because I’ve gotten used to highlighting a few family-fun activities each month, I thought I’d still do that. This month I’ve listed a number of things that will get you out of the city for a little while. Take a break from familiarity and hit a couple of fun to-dos from my list, here goes:
Ohio Fish and Shrimp Festival: September 14 – 16, $4/adult, kids 2 and under are free, kids can play, pet the sturgeon (yes, sturgeon is a fish), feed the trout, play games, listen to live music, and have an overall good time. Located in Urbana, Ohio, which is about an hour drive from Columbus. More information here: Shrimp Fest.
Delaware County Fair: September 15 – 22. Admission is $6.00, children 8 and under are free, September 20 is the Little Brown Jug and admission prices and parking prices go up. I love small county fairs, and this is one of my favorites. Kids can pet animals, ride rides, play games, and dad can get a fried bologna sandwich (if you can stand his breath afterward). Check out their site for more information: Delaware County Fair.
Ohio Renaissance Festival: Weekends September 1 – October 21. Okay, so I have a soft spot in my heart for the Ren Fest because I was a washer wench a number of years ago (yes, I know lots of bawdy songs). Anyhoo, this is a fun family event full of stage shows, games, food, and lots of shopping featuring handmade goods that is only a little over an hour away. Be sure to grovel when you see the Queen. Check out the admissions page for information on how to save on admission under “group sales”: Ohio Renaissance Festival.
The New Albany Classic: September 23, 10am-5pm at the home of Abigail and Leslie Wexner in New Albany, Ohio. Tickets are $20 each for ages 11 and up. Children 10 and under are free but must have a complimentary ticket to enter. Tickets are available online at www.thenewalbanyclassic.com. No tickets will be sold at the gate. Parking is free and available at the event entrance at 4584 Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road, New Albany, Ohio, 43054. The Classic is a daylong family festival chock full of activities for people of all ages.
The Classic features a national headline concert and an internationally-sanctioned grand prix show jumping competition featuring Olympic riders fresh from the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games (how cool!). Lots of entertainment for the kiddies! Look here for more information: The New Albany Classic.
Apple Picking: Yes, apples are ready to be picked! There are a number of orchards within a 35 – 60 minute drive from Columbus. Check out my post for more information: Fall is for Apple Picking in Central Ohio. By the way, I am planning on making sauce, dried apple faces for Halloween, and drying apples for apple bites for my girl’s lunch – if you have other great apple recipes, I’d LOVE it if you shared!
Oo Thank you for all of the great events! Can’t wait to take my kids to the picking orchard
