This summer I vowed to take my kids to the pool more often. They love the water, and there are lots of great public pools in Central Ohio. One little gem my mom made me privy to is Jack Florance Pool at Mingo Park in Delaware. We loved this pool! The area for younger kids has a zero grade entry, a little slide, fountains, and is a good size. My kids never felt overwhelmed by too many children, and the day we went a bus full of preschoolers had shown up.
Admission was affordable at $6/adult and $4/child 3 – 17. There aren’t as many pool chairs as some places, but there are benches and plenty of grassy areas to throw down a towel. We packed our lunches and brought plenty of water and sunscreen. They have a snack bar with hot dogs and chips and a few other options. Now, why don’t local pools sell those suckers that were like big sweet tarts on a stick any longer (maybe they don’t even make them anymore…I’m old)? I loved those as a kid and they were only like 25¢. I guess the kids really don’t need to be eating candy at the pool…but I want to!
There is a large changing room with lockers and showers. If you are trekking all the way out there, bring dry clothes to change into and take the kids right next door to Mingo Park. The park has fabulous play sets and a nice little trail. I didn’t get any pictures of the park, but click here to get a feel for what I am talking about: Mingo Park.
Anyhow, there are a few weeks to pool it this summer or put a visit to Jack Florance Pool on your calendar for next year. The pool can also be rented out in the evenings for parties or events, scroll down on the “Rentals” page for more information.
