Have you heard about Vintage Restyled in New Albany? It’s an adorable shabby chic vintage store with unique jewelry, gifts, restyled furniture, home decor, found treasures and handmade items. AND they host pinterest parties for you to try your hand at being crafty. I’ve done a couple myself and really enjoyed them but this time it was my kids turn to try.
Shannon the owner hand picks crafts from pinterest that would be fun for kids of all ages. My daughters had the opportunity to make the light up LOVE sign. Kids pinterest parties are held on Saturday afternoons, noon-1:30. You can drop-off or stay but the store is small so I left after my kids got settled. I also thought they would enjoy the independence.
The class fee of $30 covered all the supplies & instruction needed to leave with a handmade
project. Melody who also works in the store taught the class. There were 7 girls under the age of 10. They started with a pre painted blank canvas that they then traced the word LOVE in chalk. Using the chalk as their guide they choose a paint color and colored in LOVE. My youngest loves to paint so this was her favorite part. Once the paint was dry they poked holes in the board and filled the holes with a strand of lights. Ta-da!
When I arrived back at the shop an hour later the girls were so excited to show me what they made. It’s fun to hear about how your kids act when you are not around. My oldest kept to herself and my youngest didn’t stop talking. I love that they can find a comfort zone without me next to them. Melody was such a great instructor ensuring everyone had the right amount of help.
The girls proudly display their boards in their room. We have noticed that the lights keep coming out of the holes. Melody recommends we add a small amount of hot glue to keep them in place. We have not done this yet but need to. Right now the girls just push them back in before turning it on. They also like to use them as night lights but I wouldn’t recommend leaving them on all night so we go in and turn them off before bed.
