Pre-K Connection Fair for Columbus City Schools

Columbus City Schools and the City of Columbus will host the Pre-K Connection Fair at East High School on Saturday, April 16, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

All children in Columbus deserve an opportunity to access high-quality early childhood education. Studies have shown that 4-year-olds who participate in a high-quality pre-K program are better prepared and more successful in a kindergarten classroom.

Yet many families are not aware of the resources and the benefits of pre-K, and the significance it plays in preparing children for success. High-quality early learning in pre-K can be the first step on an educational journey of success in the classroom that extends all the way to high school and beyond.

The fair will connect families to high-quality, low-cost or free early childhood education opportunities. More than 50 community-based, pre-K providers will be on hand to offer information and resources that families need to help their children jump-start a lifetime of success. Parents are encouraged to ask the following questions of pre-K providers to ensure that they offer high-quality education for their children:

·       Who will teach my child? Each classroom should have professional staff with specialized training in early childhood education.

·       How many children will be in each class? Classrooms should have no more than 20 children with one teacher and one teaching assistant.

·       How will my child learn? Children learn best through activities that encourage a love of learning based on a child’s progress.

·       What support services do you offer? Support for children with special needs and screenings and referrals for vision, hearing and health should be provided.

Educational activities will be provided for children attending the fair, as well as a light snack.
